Research direction

Locate the Rust entry points for the dpd, tfportd, and uplinkd service runners and inspect how each daemon starts and retains privileges. First determine the privileges each service actually requires; done means none runs with unnecessary root privileges while all three still function correctly. No test files are named in the issue, so identify the relevant service tests or validation path during investigation.

Description

Currently dpd, tfportd and uplinkd run as root without dropping any privileges. This is likely not necessary and these daemons should only carry the exact set of privileges they need to function.
