Research direction

Start by comparing the reported system_profiler SPDisplaysDataType output with the IORegistry entries: the issue says only the internal display has an associated AppleDisplay and EDID. Check whether the HDMI and Mini DisplayPort outputs are detected, and request the offered IORegistry dump, NVRM logs, or diagnostic report if needed. Done means identifying why neither external display appears or documenting a confirmed limitation.

Where does it go wrong?

On the desktop (flicker, lag, displays, sleep)

What happens

Hello,

First of all, thank you for developing the NullMoth NVIDIA macOS driver. I successfully installed it on my laptop, and the internal display is working with NVIDIA acceleration.

However, I am experiencing an issue with external monitor support.

System Specifications

Laptop: Monster Tulpar T7 V25.1

CPU: Intel Core i7-11800H

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU (6 GB VRAM, Device ID: 0x2520)

Operating System: macOS Sequoia 15.8.1 (Hackintosh)

Bootloader: OpenCore

Installer: NullMoth 1401 v2.3.5

NVIDIA Driver: NullMoth NVIDIA macOS Driver v2.3.5

Internal Display: 1920×1080, 300 Hz

External Monitor: AOC 27G50Z, 1920×1080

Connections Tested: HDMI and Mini DisplayPort (direct connection)

What Works

The NVIDIA driver is installed and recognized by macOS.

system_profiler SPDisplaysDataType reports:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU:
VRAM (Total): 6 GB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x2520
Metal Support: Metal 3

Displays:
    Display:
        Resolution: 1920 x 1080
        UI Looks like: 1920 x 1080 @ 300.00Hz
        Main Display: Yes
        Online: Yes
        Connection Type: Internal

The internal laptop display works.

The Problem

External monitors are not detected through either HDMI or Mini DisplayPort.

I tested both HDMI and Mini DisplayPort connections.

The external monitor remains black.

In some cases, the monitor does not display a "No Signal" message, but there is still no image.

The external monitor does not appear in macOS System Settings → Displays.

system_profiler SPDisplaysDataType lists only the internal display.

I also checked the IORegistry. There are four NVRMDisplay instances, but only the internal display appears to have an associated AppleDisplay and EDID entry.

Both HDMI and Mini DisplayPort work normally with the same laptop and monitor under Windows and Linux.

Additional Observation

I noticed the following warning while running system_profiler:

Failed to create .../nvmtl-mesa for shader cache
(Permission denied)---disabling.

I'm not sure whether this warning is related to the external display issue.

Questions

Does the current driver support external displays connected directly to NVIDIA RTX 30-series laptop GPUs through HDMI or Mini DisplayPort?

Is this a known limitation or a possible configuration issue?

Are there any recommended boot arguments, connector settings, or debugging steps for external display detection?

Would you like me to provide an IORegistry dump, NVRM logs, or a diagnostic report from the 1401 application?

I would be happy to test potential fixes and provide additional logs.
