Research direction

Start by reading install.sh, which the report says rewrites /Library/GPUBundles/nvmtl/nvrm610.conf, and trace how GPU-specific settings are selected. The report identifies GA106 and NVMTL_NO_SURFACE_PAGEOFF=1 as the setting that restored display output; check whether that setting can be retained as a per-system rule. Done means updates preserve the appropriate GA106 setting.

sorry idk

Anything you had to do that 1401 did not do for you

hi! got my 3050 working, sharing what it took so 1401 can do it for others.

setup:

  • rtx 3050 8gb, ga106, 10de:2507
  • i5-11400 + gigabyte b560m h (bios f5), above 4g + rebar on, bar1 8 gb
  • macos 15.8.1 (24h32), opencore 1.0.8, imacpro1,1
  • driver 1.13.0 via 1401 1.13.0
  • one 2560x1440 60 hz monitor over dp

what happened:
first boot after install showed the desktop with heavy artifacts. every boot after that was a black screen with only the cursor. windowserver kept running, no crash, no xid.

logs with the stock config:
QuartzCore: timed out fence / timed out batch
NullMoth: surface 1 dirty refused (0x80000004) - copy-out
NullMoth: vk: vkAllocateMemory refused the imported host pointer (memory type 2)

after adding NVK_CMDPOOL_GPU_UNCACHED=1 and NVK_SYSMEM_GPU_UNCACHED=1 the fence timeouts went away but it was still black, and the panel only got empty frames:
NVAccel: iop: K6 transaction #0 (head 0) ... from the IOSurface's memory - 64 samples: nonzero 0 varied 0

what fixed it: adding NVMTL_NO_SURFACE_PAGEOFF=1 to /Library/GPUBundles/nvmtl/nvrm610.conf and running sudo killall -9 WindowServer. login window and desktop came up right away.

my extra lines in nvrm610.conf:
NVK_CMDPOOL_GPU_UNCACHED=1
NVK_SYSMEM_GPU_UNCACHED=1
NVMTL_NO_SURFACE_PAGEOFF=1
haven't checked yet if pageoff alone is enough.

other lines that might matter:
nvrm: copy-engine queue could not be built on this GPU (VkResult -13) - copy queue on a graphics channel
nvrm: b81 SET_LG_SECTOR_PROMOTION 64B rc 0x56
NVRM: nvAssertFailedNoLog: Assertion failed: 0 @ chipset.c:462

still open: after display sleep the screen stays black (backlight on), maybe the same as #90. turning display sleep off works around it.

would be great to have this as a per-system rule for ga106, since install.sh rewrites nvrm610.conf and the knob is lost on every update.
