Research direction

Start in the project's pyproject.toml and add pytest under the Poetry dev dependency group, then look at the existing .github/workflows directory for a Python workflow to copy. Add a workflow that installs dependencies and runs pytest, triggered on pull requests that touch Python files via a paths filter. The test file added in PR #257 is the one to run. Done when the workflow passes on a PR that changes a .py file.

Description

enhancement priority normal

nice of you to add a test, but currently there is no runner of this in CI or otherwise.
this would be good to have, should we have another PR adding this cleanly?
that could include this test file, dev dependency added to pyproject for poetry and a github workflow that would run on every PR touching the python files.
