Research direction

Start in plugins/newtab and identify how the skill group and its sub-skills should be represented. Cover the four listed tasks: version bumping, the channel-metrics-diff command, @backward-compat shim searches and Bugzilla filing, and locale updates; done means each task has its own skill and the required command reports or commits are handled.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

Create separate sub-skills for each individual task:

  1. Bump minor version
  2. Update metrics/pings — mach newtab channel-metrics-diff --channel release/beta, commit result
  3. Find & file @backward-compat shims — grep codebase for @backward-compat { version NNN }, file Bugzilla bugs (and optionally fix them)
  4. Update locales — ./mach newtab update-locales, show report, commit
