Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating GPS module handling and clock synchronization in the firmware, then trace how positional data is enabled across firmware types. Done means GPS time can sync without activating positional data, with the requested default and explicit user consent behavior defined and verified.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

Can we please have a clock sync only GPS mode.

This is where time is just as important as not doxing your location just to have accurate time.

I also think this should be the default setting for any firmware that detects a GPS module present.

I also think the user must explicitly allow positional data to be enabled on any firmware regardless of type or functionality.

Main use cases are repeaters where GPS module is present, clock synchronization should happen automatically. Also sensors where a schedule is needed to turn something on and off without clock drift over time.

Again can I stress how harmful doxing yourself through inadvertent GPS activation is, even though time is the only thing I want synced.
