Research direction

Start by tracing how repeater firmware handles incoming GRP TXT messages on open channels and identifies the first hop. The issue proposes dropping repeated identical text and optionally suppressing traffic from a first hop for a period, but names no files or tests. Done means both filtering options work as described without forwarding the matching traffic.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

In the UK we are currently getting a lot of Spam messages in the Public chat (see below), characterised by the same message being sent over and over again but with a different contact name each time. Looking at the packets they all arrive one after the other and are all originating from the same first hop. I was wondering if it would be possible for the repeater firmware to have the option to hold on to the previous message and, if the text is exactly the same as the previous GRP TXT message on an open channel, to drop the message rather than repeating it. An extra option to block /drop all traffic from the first hop for a period of time would be good too.
