Research direction

Start from the Mouse and Touchpad settings and reproduce the behavior across a reboot, then inspect how the /org/cinnamon/settings-daemon/peripherals/touchpad/left-handed dconf key is applied. Done means left-handed mouse configuration no longer reverses touchpad tap buttons, while the documented mouse behavior remains unchanged.

Description

bug
 * csd version ('dpkg --list | grep cinnamon-settings-daemon' in Mint/Ubuntu): 4.4.0+tricia
 * Distribution - (Mint 17.2, Arch, Fedora 25, etc...): 19.3
 * 32 or 64 bit: 64 bit

Issue

I use the mouse in the left-handed configuration. This works find

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Mouse and Touchpad settings.
  2. Activate Left handed (mouse buttons inverted).

Mouse works left-handed and touchpad's single finger tap produces a primary (left) mouse button click and a two finger tap a secondary (right) mouse button click. A three finger click produces a middle mouse button click.

  1. Reboot

Now the mouse still works left-handed, but a single finger tap produces a secondary (right) mouse button click and a two-finger tap produces a primary (left) mouse button click. The three finger tap is not affected and still produces a middle mouse button click.

Expected behaviour

A single finger tap should produce a primary mouse button click and a two finger tap a secondary mouse button click.

Other information

I installed dconf-editor and set /org/cinnamon/settings-daemon/peripherals/touchpad/left-handed from mouse to right. Now I can change the mouse settings to my liking without affecting the touchpad. Either right should be the default option or the Touchpad settings should get a Left-handed section with a drop-down menu with the items mouse, right and left. But IMHO only right is the only sensible selection.
