Research direction

The issue names no files, tests or entry points, so start by finding the existing audio capture code and the microphone input path in the repository. The issue asks for a per-platform decision: macOS (ScreenCaptureKit or Core Audio taps), Windows (WASAPI loopback via cpal), and Linux (monitor source via PulseAudio or PipeWire). Done means agreeing on one scope with a maintainer, then capturing system audio alongside the microphone with a visible recording indicator.

Description

enhancement priority:P2

First piece of a meeting note taker: record the audio coming out of your computer, so a call can be transcribed without a bot joining it.

Each system does this differently:

  • macOS: ScreenCaptureKit can capture system audio (macOS 13+), and 14.4+ adds Core Audio taps. Both ask permission once.
  • Windows: WASAPI loopback, which cpal already supports.
  • Linux: the monitor source of the default sink, through PulseAudio or PipeWire. It shows up as a normal input device.

Worth doing: capture system audio alongside the microphone, so both sides of a conversation are recorded, with a clear indicator while it runs. Recording other people is a privacy matter, so it should be obvious, deliberate and never automatic.

Prerequisite for #170 and #171.
