Research direction

The issue names no files. Start by reading the existing clipboard copy, paste and restore code, the hotkey handling, and the pill's state handling, since the issue says all three already exist. Before writing code, settle the open questions in the thread: behaviour when nothing is selected, how the pill shows progress, and undo. Done means a maintainer has agreed on those answers and the design is written up.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

enhancement priority:P2

The most-praised paid feature after dictation itself: highlight some text, hold the hotkey, say "make this shorter" or "rewrite this politely", and the selection is replaced.

How it would work here: a second hotkey copies the selection, sends it with what you said to the local model (#118), and pastes the result back, restoring the clipboard afterwards. We already copy, paste and restore the clipboard, so the plumbing exists.

Things to settle: what happens when nothing is selected, how to show that it's working (the pill has states for this), and undo, since replacing someone's text is the most destructive thing SpeakType would do.
