説明
Summary
Add a logical argument, ae_listing_placebo, to prepare_ae_forestly() so users can choose whether placebo subjects are included in the subject-level AE listings accessed through the interactive forest plot.
Current behavior
The interactive AE forest plot provides drill-down to subject-level AE listings. These listings currently include subjects from all treatment groups, including placebo.
Users cannot exclude placebo subjects from the drill-down listings while retaining them in the forest plot and statistical comparisons.
Proposed enhancement
Introduce:
ae_listing_placebo = TRUE
Expected behavior:
| Value | AE listing behavior |
|---|---|
TRUE |
Include subjects from all treatment groups, including placebo. Preserve current behavior. |
FALSE |
Include only non-placebo subjects in AE drill-down listings. Do not provide drill-down listings for placebo subjects. |
For the example where the treatment variable is TRTA and the placebo label is "Placebo", setting ae_listing_placebo = FALSE should restrict the listing records to TRTA != "Placebo".
Example usage
The existing example orders the treatment groups as "Low Dose" followed by "Placebo", so the placebo reference group is group 2.
meta |>
prepare_ae_forestly(
reference_group = 2,
ae_listing_display = c("USUBJID", "SITEID", "SEX", "RACE", "AGE"),
ae_listing_placebo = FALSE
) |>
format_ae_forestly() |>
ae_forestly()
To retain listings for all treatment groups:
meta |>
prepare_ae_forestly(
reference_group = 2,
ae_listing_display = c("USUBJID", "SITEID", "SEX", "RACE", "AGE"),
ae_listing_placebo = TRUE
) |>
format_ae_forestly() |>
ae_forestly()
Acceptance criteria
- Default to
TRUEfor backward compatibility. - When
FALSE, exclude placebo-subject records from the drill-down listing data, not merely hide them visually. - Keep drill-down available for non-placebo subjects.
- Leave population denominators, AE counts, incidence estimates, treatment comparisons, confidence intervals, and forest plot results unchanged.
- Handle AE terms with no eligible non-placebo listing records gracefully, without displaying placebo records.
- Validate that the argument is a single non-missing logical value.
- Document how the placebo group is identified. Avoid relying solely on the literal label
"Placebo"because treatment labels may be customized. Ifreference_groupis used, clarify the behavior when the reference group is not placebo.
Motivation
This option would let users focus subject-level AE review on non-placebo groups while preserving placebo data in the overall safety analysis and treatment comparisons.
