Direzione di ricerca

Start by reviewing the React Aria color-related components and the linked color picker references. The issue raises open design questions about gamut limits, preserving chroma or lightness when hue changes, and mapping perceptual color spaces to area pickers; first agree on the API and behavior with the maintainers. Done means a shared design for supporting spaces such as oklab and oklch.

Descrizione

enhancement

Hey folks, I'm working on a design application and I'm planning on working on UI based on the React Aria color-related components that would add support for color spaces like oklab, oklch.

It's a gnarly problem space, some problems I've been thinking about:

  • Area pickers need to signal out of bounds color selection that your monitor doesn't support.
  • Do you want to maintain chroma or lightness when changing hue? How do you choose which one?
  • How do we map the color space to a rectangle for area picking?

I'm not an expert in the field, but I wanted to signal my intent here in case anyone is working on something similar. Ideally I would love for us to collaborate and come up with a great API we can all use for our color pickers.
