Start by reading the Python package's setup.py and locating where code generation writes files under src; compare that behavior with how the cpp package builds. Check the linked pull request before starting, since it may already address the issue. Done means Python-generated code is stored in the build folder rather than the source folder.

Building a setup.py based setup results in code being generated in the source folder.
A cleaner approach would be probably to store this not in the src directory. This would also be more consistent with the way the cpp package is build.
