Direzione di ricerca

Start with DensityMapPanel::compute and compare how a drag currently updates the Density Map with how each zoom step triggers a full evaluation. The issue recommends using a coarse grid while zooming, then computing the full grid after about 0.4 seconds without another zoom; completion means zooming avoids repeated modal progress dialogs and reports progress in the panel status line.

Descrizione

Found 2026-10-27 (Andy): zooming a Density Map shows 'Evaluating...' at each zoom level and makes zooming slow. Each zoom recomputes the map at the full point count (the step shrinks with the zoom window, DensityMapPanel::compute), so every level costs a full evaluation; past 0.5 s the app-modal progress dialog appears.
Options:

  • A (recommended): zoom like a drag already does: a coarse grid at once with no dialog ('Coarse grid while zooming'), and the full grid once the zooming stops (about 0.4 s without a new zoom), with the progress shown in the panel's own status line instead of a modal dialog.
  • B: keep the full grid per zoom, but drop the modal dialog (status line only).
  • C: zoom the existing image first (no evaluation) and refine after the zooming stops.
