Research direction
Start with the PyPatchMatch version requirement at pyproject.toml:108, then find and update documentation that still describes the outdated requirement, including the issue referenced by #9775. Check the dependency requirement and documentation for consistency; the requested version constraint is >2.

What should this feature add?
PyPatchMatch has recently been upgraded to solve the recurring installation issues experienced by users. Invoke should bump the version requirement to >2 so that everyone benefits from this development. This will also involve modifying the outdated documentation (e.g. #9775).
Alternatives
An earlier version of this FR was a proposed switch to patchmatch-cython (#8781). This is no longer relevant due to the excellent work by the PyPatchMatch maintainer @mauwii.
