Research direction

Start by reading docs/gis_scenes.md and comparing its CustomGIS guidance with the settings and runtime log messages in the issue. Then trace the tile-loading path to establish whether quadkey-named .glb and .gltf files are supported. Done means identifying why the tiles are not rendered and documenting the supported formats and required configuration, or filing a more specific follow-up if the cause needs a separate fix.

Description

Question

What's your question?

I'm trying to use CustomGIS scene configuration to load GIS terrain tiles in Project AirSim, but the tiles are not being rendered in the scene. I indicated the required directories for the tiles, and based on the code, I believe the .glb files should be named according to Bing tile map quadkeys. I have attached a screenshot showing the GLB files in my tile directory.

When running the simulation in -log mode, I see these messages:

[2026.01.13-12.21.27:537][910]SimPlugin: [AUnrealSimLoader] Tile source provided by: client scene config.
[2026.01.13-12.21.27:537][910]SimPlugin: [AUnrealSimLoader] Resolved tiles directory = 'C:/glTF_tiles/dfw-tiles/'
[2026.01.13-12.21.27:537][910]SimPlugin: [GISRenderer] Using tile source dir: 'C:/glTF_tiles/dfw-tiles/'

But despite this, the tiles do not appear in the Unreal scene at runtime.

My configuration in settings.json:

  "scene-type": "CustomGIS",
  "tiles-dir": "C:/glTF_tiles/seattle",
  "tiles-dir-is-client-relative": false

Additionally, it seems the docs/gis_scenes.md file is incomplete, and I'm not sure if .gltf files are properly supported.

Include context on what you are trying to achieve

I want the system to fetch matching tiles from my folder, based on the quadkey of my simulated position, and create terrain at runtime using those files. My directory contains .glb files named after quadkeys.
