Research direction

Start with workshop/07-your-first-workflow.md at line 55 and workshop/07d-confirm-model-access.md around lines 48–55. Add the inline billing-path decision table and a hands-on check that verifies the permissions: block, recompiles and pushes, then checks the source .md and .lock.yml on main. Done when both billing paths are verifiable on the default branch and the stated learning scores meet the acceptance criteria.

Description

feedback simulation workshop
Problem

Step 7 (26.5% conditional dropout, 22,141 at-risk runs; top cause: Copilot access missing, 3,642 failures) has the prompt in workshop/07-your-first-workflow.md:55 hard-code copilot-requests: write before learners choose billing. 07d-confirm-model-access.md:48 then defers the billing steps to a side quest, and its checkpoint (lines 54-55) is generic.

Proposed change

Add a short inline decision table and a verification activity in 07d (confirm the permissions: block, recompile, push, check the lock file on main). Keep the side quest for detail. Add a hands-on check where the learner reads the lock file and states which path they are on.

Failure mode

Access barrier (with a minor learning component).

Quantitative guardrail

Step 7 / 7d: overall_score 6.25; weakest dimensions checkpoint_quality 0.0, scaffolding 5.0. Learning KPI inputs: active_learning 6.3, checkpoint_quality 0.0, scaffolding 5.0 (index 3.6). An inline activity and verifiable checkpoint adds practice and checkpoint items, so these should stay flat or rise.

Acceptance criteria
  • Step's overall_score stays flat or improves (≥ 6.25)
  • Learning KPI index (2.0×AL + 2.0×CQ + 1.5×SC)/5.5 stays flat or improves (≥ 3.6)
  • Hands-on practice, checkpoints and scaffolding are preserved or strengthened
  • Both billing paths verify source .md and .lock.yml on the default branch
