The bug is in electron/auto-updater.ts where installSelfUpdate calls quitAndInstall(false, true). Read that function and electron-builder.json5 to see why the NSIS wizard appears. Pass the right flags so only a UAC prompt shows, then verify on Windows that the update installs without wizard pages.

Description

bug

Clicking the update button on Windows opens the full NSIS install wizard instead of only a UAC prompt.

Repro

  • Windows 11, v2.2.0-rc.1 NSIS x64, per-machine install (C:\Program Files\Openscreen), the only install on the machine.
  • Local update feed (checklist, "Updating in place — post-2.1.2") offering 9.9.9.
  • Wait for the blue update button, click it.

Expected

The app quits, Windows asks for UAC, the update installs and the app comes back. That is what the comment on installSelfUpdate in electron/auto-updater.ts describes.

Actual

  • The installer runs as Openscreen.Setup.2.2.0-rc.1-x64.exe --updated --force-run, without /S.
  • The wizard opens on "Who should this application be installed for?", with Anyone who uses this computer preselected and a note that an existing per-machine install will be updated.
  • Next, then UAC, then the update installs and the app comes back. So the end state is right; the path is not.

Worse with two installs

On a machine that also had an old per-user install, the same page preselected Just for me, which updates the other copy. Choosing All users updated the right one but uninstalled the per-user copy.

Cause

  • installSelfUpdate calls quitAndInstall(false, true). With isSilent=false and oneClick: false in electron-builder.json5, the assisted installer shows its pages.
  • The call is unchanged since v2.1.2, so this is not a 2.2.0 regression.
  • The install-mode page is only skipped by /allusers, /currentuser or a custom install mode.

Found during the rc.1 e2e pass (#1431).
