Línea de trabajo

The work centers on compatibility_hints.py, which mixes the hint lookup and default-derivation framework, the hint definitions, and the database of known server implementations. Read the two comments first, since the issue leaves open whether the data should move to YAML, and that choice decides the shape of the split. Done means the three concerns live in separate modules, with the data format settled and agreed in the thread.

Descripción

compatibility refactoring

I thought there existed an issue on this already, but apparently not.

compatibility_hints.py today consists of three things:

  • framework for handling the hints and the database (looking up, defaults, derivation of implicit values based on parent/children nodes, etc)
  • the definitions of the compatibility hints
  • the "database" of known server implementations

Those should probably be split up in three different files. Or at least the first should be cleaned away.

The hint definitions and compatibility database should further be rewritten in a way that it's nice-looking and easy to read, even for someone that doesn't understand python. (maybe it shouldn't be python? Maybe it should be yaml?)
