Start in tray.py at monitor() and is_running(), where the issue says any timeshift process is treated as snapshot creation. Check how Timeshift exposes the operation it is performing, then compare tray behavior for deletion and creation, including creation from the Timeshift window. Done means the hint reflects the actual operation and its intended scope is clear; the issue mentions no test file.

mintreport 1.6.1 and Timeshift 25.12.4 on Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon.

I deleted an old snapshot from a terminal. The tray icon appeared with the hint "A Timeshift system snapshot is being created." and stayed until the delete had finished. Nothing was being created. This was the only Timeshift process running:

timeshift --delete --snapshot '2026-05-27_00-52-29' --scripted

In tray.py, monitor() registers Timeshift as MonitoredProcess(..., "timeshift", ..., is_binary=True), and is_running() then only tests p.name() == "timeshift". Every run of the command line tool matches, whatever it was asked to do.

One question about when the hint is meant to appear. It did not show while I created a snapshot from the Timeshift window, where the process is timeshift-gtk. Is the hint meant for background runs only?

#83 was about this same hint, and #84 fixed the case reported there.

I plan to try a version of the tray on my own machine in which the hint follows what Timeshift is actually doing. If it works out, I would be glad to send it as a pull request, along with a fix for the wording above if you want one.
