Línea de trabajo

The failure is a fixed shared path, /tmp/mintreport/inxi, that stays owned by the first user who ran the tool. Search the Python sources for the /tmp/mintreport string and for where the inxi output is written, and attach mintreport.log to see which call fails. Done means two different users can each run mintreport on the same machine without a permission error, and the attached inxi.txt output still gets generated.

Descripción

I have a Mint 22.3 computer with 4 users, set for my family memebers - including me.

Today, I logged in my mom's account (regular user, so not an admin account -if that matters), and ran mintreport from there. All went fine until I relogged to my own account.

Problem: I logged back to my own user account, and when I tried to run mintreport, the GUI launched all fine, but I got a error notification for permission error on /tmp/mintreport/inxi

Cause: So I inspected that file, and to my surprise the parent folder recursively was set as owner for my mom's account. That's weird, because this way the app assumes (?) that the first and only user whoever started this program, should be the owner and period.

Solution: The program should be developed in such fashion that all users can use mintreport regardless who started it first, thus preventing permission denials, and confusing error notifications.

mintreport version: 1.6.1

LANG=C apt policy mintreport
mintreport:
  Installed: 1.6.1
  Candidate: 1.6.1

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

inxi.txt
mintreport.log

Until this gets fixed, a temporary workaround is to set the folder back to my own admin account via
sudo chown -R [username]: /tmp/mintreport
