Start with HandleLaunchAsync in src/Prompuff.App/Views/MainWindow.axaml.cs, then read WindowActivation.cs, X11GlobalHotkeyService.cs, and IClipboardService.cs to trace clipboard handling and focus restoration. Implement the platform specific behavior behind OS checks, add the Quick save setting and document its default in ROADMAP.md. Done means the Windows and X11 paste paths work both on and off, macOS permission handling is covered by UI tests, and docs/user-guide.md explains the setting and permission.

The last step of Quick insert: the rendered prompt ends up in the app you were typing in.

What to do

  • Copy the result through IClipboardService, then step back to the app you came from, as a hotkey Quick save does: the window goes back to the tray or the taskbar if it was there.
  • Add Paste after inserting, a setting in Settings › Quick save. When it's on, Prompuff also presses the paste key in that app once it has focus again:
    • Windows: SendInput with Ctrl+V.
    • X11: XTest with Ctrl+V. The release smoke test already presses keys through XTest.
    • macOS: a Cmd+V key event, which needs Accessibility access. Settings asks for it, and says so plainly. Without it the result is only copied.
  • All of this lives in src/Prompuff.App/Platform, each part behind its OperatingSystem.Is…() check.
  • Today nothing hands focus back to the previous app on purpose. It happens as a side effect of hiding or minimizing the window. Make sure that app has focus before the paste key goes, or the paste lands somewhere else.
  • The setting's default is a decision: record it in ROADMAP.md.

Done when

  • On Windows and X11, with Paste after inserting on, Quick insert from Notepad or gedit pastes the result there, and with it off the result is only copied.
  • On macOS without Accessibility access the result is copied, and Settings explains how to allow pasting. The macOS UI tests cover that path on CI. Pasting with access granted can only be checked by hand on a Mac, so the pull request says so.
  • docs/user-guide.md describes the setting and the macOS permission.
