Línea de trabajo

Start by reading the existing dbc command structure and how it installs and configures ADBC drivers; the issue does not name specific files or tests. Determine whether a transient run command fits the project, including driver matching, temporary storage, and environment setup. Done would mean the command runs a program with a compatible driver configured and reports an error when none is available.

idea

This feels like a subpar idea but I thought I'd write it down.

uv run lets you run a Python script with a specific Python interpreter with a one or more optional packages. uv handles managing a transient virtual environment to run the command in and then tears it all down when the command exits. This is useful for all sorts of things. What if dbc had an analogue?

$ dbc run --with="flightsl < 1.6.0" ./your_executable_name

This would,

  1. Create a temporary directory
  2. Find a matching flightsql driver for your system, error if one can't be found
  3. Download the found driver to the temporary directory
  4. Set ADBC_CONFIG_PATH

The program or script being run would then be able to direct their driver manager to load "flightsql" and the rest would be figured out.

When the program runs, the temporary directory would be left alone for the OS to recover.
