Línea de trabajo

Start by reading the /v1/tabctx/datasets/{id}/distill endpoint and the client’s clf.distill() entry point; the issue does not name their files. Then inspect how cached contexts are stored and how the real-dataset suite reports results. Done means returning a scikit-learn estimator and reporting agreement, held-out accuracy and its gap to the foundation model, model size, and CPU prediction latency.

Descripción

area/api enhancement P3 roadmap

Let a user turn a cached context into a small, cheap model that runs anywhere, with no GPU and no server. Examples are gradient boosting or a small MLP, trained to match the foundation model's predictions. Prior Labs offers this only in their enterprise edition.

Shape

  • POST /v1/tabctx/datasets/{id}/distill: generate inputs around the training table, label them with the cached context, train the small model, and return it as a file (ONNX or skops).
  • Client: clf.distill() returns a scikit-learn estimator.
  • Report how closely the small model matches the foundation model (agreement, and accuracy on a held-out split), so the user can decide whether it's good enough.

Accept

  • On the real-dataset suite, the distilled model's accuracy and its gap to the foundation model are reported, along with its size and CPU predict latency.
