Línea de trabajo
Review the current Okapi KiCad schematic around J9 and the four unconnected pins: SIM_VCC, SIM_CLK, SIM_DATA, and SIM_RST. Decide whether to preserve an optional unpopulated nano SIM footprint or keep the design eSIM-only; the issue is done when that design decision is made and the schematic reflects it.

Descripción
Question for Bobby
In the current Okapi schematic, all four external SIM interface pins on J9 (B-Series M.2 module) are unconnected:
SIM_VCCSIM_CLKSIM_DATASIM_RST
These have been marked no-connect in the KiCad schematic, meaning the board uses the B-Series onboard eSIM only (no external nano SIM card socket).
The question: is it worth routing these to an unpopulated nano SIM footprint as a backup option — e.g. for deployments where the eSIM doesn't cover a needed carrier, or for flexibility on future data plans?
Arguments for leaving as-is (eSIM only):
- Particle eSIM supports carrier switching OTA
- A physical SIM slot is a reliability risk on a field instrument (water ingress, vibration, card loss)
- Simpler BOM; no-populate footprint still adds cost and board space
Arguments for routing to a no-populate SIM footprint:
- Escape hatch if eSIM coverage is insufficient for a specific deployment region
- Some carriers/plans are only available on physical SIMs
- Costs almost nothing if not stuffed, but preserves optionality
Andy's instinct is to leave it as eSIM-only but wanted your input before closing the door.
