Start with testsuite/Cargo.toml and the three devolutions_gateway imports in testsuite/tests/cli/agent/tunnel.rs, testsuite/tests/agent_tunnel/kdc.rs and testsuite/tests/agent_tunnel/integration.rs, then check cli/dgw/kdc_proxy.rs for overlap with the KDC test. The testsuite links the devolutions-gateway library target as a dev-dependency, which pulls axum, hyper, rustls, and the rest of the Gateway into the single test binary's build and link. That is the largest avoidable compile cost in the suite, and it also lets tests reconstruct Gateway internals in-process instead of driving the binary.

Current usages at origin/master:

  • testsuite/tests/agent_tunnel/integration.rs: devolutions_gateway::{recording, session, subscriber, target_addr, token, traffic_audit, upstream, jmux}; wires SessionManagerTask, recording_message_channel, and jmux::handle by hand.
  • testsuite/tests/agent_tunnel/kdc.rs: devolutions_gateway::{kdc_connector::KdcConnector, target_addr::TargetAddr}.
  • testsuite/tests/cli/agent/tunnel.rs: devolutions_gateway::{target_addr::TargetAddr, token::...} for building token claims.

Proposed direction:

  • cli/agent/tunnel.rs: build claims as plain JSON; token validation is disabled in tests, so the Gateway types are not needed.
  • agent_tunnel/kdc.rs: cli/dgw/kdc_proxy.rs already covers the explicit-agent KDC path through the CLI (see #2068); check what remains unique here and move or drop it.
  • agent_tunnel/integration.rs: identify which behaviours are reachable by starting the Gateway binary with an AgentTunnel config and a real or fake agent, and which need a __debug__ knob; the remainder is unit-test material for #[cfg(test)] modules in the Gateway crate.

Once the usages are gone, remove devolutions-gateway from testsuite/Cargo.toml [dev-dependencies]. Policy context: testsuite/AGENTS.md (#2089).
