Start by reproducing the session in a Rails console with debug 1.9.1: run a command, check history, restart, and press the up arrow. Compare this behavior with pry-byebug and trace the debug console's history handling; done means commands persist across console restarts and the history command reports them.

Beschreibung

  • ruby -v: ruby 3.3.0 (2023-12-25 revision 5124f9ac75) [arm64-darwin21]
  • gem list debug: debug (1.9.1)
  • gem list rails: rails (7.1.2)
  • gem list irb: irb (default: 1.11.0)

Describe the bug
Command history is forgotten after restarting rails console

To Reproduce

  • open rails console
  • issue anything (eg: 1+1)
  • issue history, you must see the two commands
  • exit rails console
  • open rails console again
  • press up arrow (it should bring back last executed command), but none is returned
  • issue history, history is empty

ps: it works as expected when I have pry-byebug (3.10.1) instead of debug (1.9.1) on the application Gemfile

Expected behavior
When pressing up arrow, I should see the last executed command, as it happens with pry-byebug.
