Rechercherichtung

The payload names no source or build files. Start by checking which glibc symbol version the released pkgx binary requires, for example with objdump or readelf against the GLIBC_2.28 requirement, and find where the release build targets Linux. Done means the binary starts on a glibc 2.27 system such as Ubuntu 18.04, or the minimum supported glibc is documented. Ask maintainers which target is wanted first.

Beschreibung

Description

I'm unable to run pkgx on Ubuntu 18.04, which is still a supported Ubuntu release.

When I try to execute the binary, I get the following error:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~/.pkgx$ ./pkgx
./pkgx: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.28' not found (required by ./pkgx)

Ubuntu 18.04 ships with glibc 2.27, as confirmed by the installed library files:

/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc-2.27.so
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6

It appears that the current pkgx binary requires glibc 2.28 or newer, making it incompatible with Ubuntu 18.04.

Expected behavior

pkgx should run on Ubuntu 18.04, given that this release is still supported.

Possible solution

Would it be possible to build pkgx against an older glibc version to improve compatibility with older Linux distributions?

Building against glibc 2.27 or an earlier compatible version could help ensure that the binary works on Ubuntu 18.04 and other distributions with older system libraries.
