Rechercherichtung

Beschreibung

bug

Describe the bug
The bundled everything-server returns a test_logging_tool result without resultType when using MCP 2026-07-28.

To Reproduce

  1. Start the bundled everything-server from commit f44482ba17df816d3176962a11cdf36aec9bda00 at http://localhost:3000/mcp.
  2. Run:
    npx @modelcontextprotocol/[email protected] server \
      --url http://localhost:3000/mcp \
      --spec-version 2026-07-28 \
      --scenario server-stateless \
      --verbose

  3. Inspect the response to the test_logging_tool call.

Expected behavior
The result includes "resultType": "complete" alongside content. The MCP 2026-07-28 result-response specification says result MUST include resultType; its absent-means-complete compatibility rule appears to be limited to earlier-version servers.

Logs
The handler returns this response shape (id is illustrative):

{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "id": 1,
  "result": {
    "content": [{ "type": "text", "text": "Logging evaluated" }]
  }
}

Additional context
This appears related to #461 and #462, which addressed missing resultType on streamed tool responses. The dedicated test_logging_tool response branch appears to remain outside that normalization path.

I may have misinterpreted the version-specific compatibility rule or this diagnostic tool’s intended behavior.

Please correct me if this response is expected on the 2026-07-28 wire.
