Rechercherichtung

Start with the failing assertion in t/01.simple.t for UNIVERSAL::to_yaml, which calls YAML::Any::Dump on a blessed hash. Trace the JVM path through the selected YAML dumper and its PerlOnJava compatibility layer to find where the blessed class tag is dropped. Done when the JVM output includes the perl/hash:Foo tag and a focused regression test for YAML::Any::Dump blessed-hash serialization passes on both backends.

Beschreibung

area:backend area:cpan-port bug

Summary

UNIVERSAL::to_yaml 0.11 fails its blessed-hash serialization test on the PerlOnJava JVM backend. Its to_yaml method delegates directly to YAML::Any::Dump, and the result omits the blessed class marker expected by the upstream test.

Evidence

  • Distribution: UNIVERSAL-to_yaml 0.11

  • CPAN tester run: 20261008-181412-1954

  • Failing test: t/01.simple.t, assertion at line 12 (1 of 2 distribution tests failed)

  • Test object: bless { This => "this value", That => "That Value" }, "Foo"

  • Expected output to match: perl/hash:Foo

  • PerlOnJava JVM actual output:

    ---
    This: this value
    That: That Value

  • System Perl 5.42.2: full target suite passes (2 files, 2 tests); YAML 1.321 and its test prerequisites also passed in the archived oracle run.

  • PerlOnJava JVM: reproduces the assertion failure.

  • PerlOnJava interpreter: unclassified; the focused reproducer stops with Unsupported local operand: OperatorNode in YAML/Any.pm before the assertion.

  • PerlOnJava checkout used for the focused reproduction: b715a4db7; OpenJDK 24.0.2; macOS arm64.

  • The distribution is pure Perl and has no XS/native prerequisites.

Investigation

The CPAN distribution method is only:

sub UNIVERSAL::to_yaml {
    Dump( $_[0] )
}

This points to the selected YAML dumper or its PerlOnJava compatibility layer as the likely source of the missing blessed-object tag. That component-level cause still needs to be isolated.

Acceptance criteria

  • Preserve the Foo blessed-hash tag expected by upstream t/01.simple.t on the JVM backend.
  • Add focused project-owned regression coverage for blessed-hash YAML serialization through the YAML::Any::Dump path.
  • Classify and address the interpreter parse/operand error separately if it remains reproducible after the JVM path is fixed.
  • Validate the focused behavior under system Perl and both PerlOnJava backends.
