Rechercherichtung

Beschreibung

documentation good first issue help wanted

Two TypeScript incremental-build caches are tracked by git:

$ git ls-files | grep tsbuildinfo
apps/http-server/tsconfig.tsbuildinfo
apps/ws-server/tsconfig.tsbuildinfo

They are regenerated by every pnpm build, so they show as modified immediately after any build:

$ pnpm run build && git status --short
 M apps/http-server/tsconfig.tsbuildinfo
 M apps/ws-server/tsconfig.tsbuildinfo
Why it matters

Anyone who builds before committing has to notice these and leave them out. Miss it, and a PR that should touch two files touches four, with a binary-looking diff nobody can review. It also makes git status useless as a check on what you actually changed.

For a new contributor this is a confusing first experience: they did not edit these files, but git says they did.

The subtlety

A .gitignore entry alone will not fix it. Git keeps tracking a file it already knows about, so the rule is ignored for these two. The repo already shows both outcomes:

apps/admin-server/.gitignore:4:*.tsbuildinfo # added before anything was committed - clean
apps/http-server/.gitignore:5:/tsconfig.tsbuildinfo # added after - still tracked, still dirty

ws-server has no rule at all.

What a fix looks like
git rm --cached apps/http-server/tsconfig.tsbuildinfo apps/ws-server/tsconfig.tsbuildinfo

--cached removes them from git while leaving the files on disk, so nothing breaks locally. Then add *.tsbuildinfo to the root .gitignore so this cannot come back for a future app.

Worth a quick look for other generated files in the same position — git ls-files against the build output directories.

Definition of done
  • git status is clean straight after pnpm run build
  • *.tsbuildinfo is ignored repo-wide
  • The files still exist locally; incremental builds are not slower

Good first issue: two commands and a one-line ignore rule, and it removes a papercut every contributor hits.
