Start with the existing logic in ecce-first-start (--change, choose_local, choose_server) and ecce-localdata, then look at how Edit > Change Server and the Preferences Data folder setting are wired today. Check first_start_window_test to see how both switches are covered. Done means a Data tab in Preferences shows the current state and both choices, reads siteconfig/RemoteServer and siteconfig/SharedBroker as read-only when set, and has app tests for switching and the state files. Settle the open questions in the thread first: whether to remove or keep the menu item, and the Windows behaviour.

Beschreibung

Where a user's work is kept is chosen in two unrelated places:

  • Edit > Change Server… (the first-start window: this computer / a server);
  • Preferences > Data folder (the local data folder).

Neither is easy to find, and they are two halves of one choice.

Proposal: one tab in Preferences, e.g. Data.

  • Current state at the top, as in the start window: "ECCE is working on this computer; your calculations are in …" or "ECCE is connected to the server …".
  • Where your work is kept:
    • (•) This computer: Data folder [ … ] [Browse…]
    • ( ) A server: Address [ … ] [Connect…] (the same checks as the start window: reachability, TLS pin)
  • "The change takes effect the next time you start ECCE."
  • When the installation has a site-wide server (siteconfig/RemoteServer, siteconfig/SharedBroker): shown read-only, "Set by your administrator".
  • Edit > Change Server… is removed, or kept for one release as a shortcut that opens this tab.

Implementation: the logic already exists in ecce-first-start (--change, choose_local, choose_server) and ecce-localdata. The tab can call them, so there is one implementation on Linux, macOS and Windows. Edit > Change Server does not work on Windows today (#240 follow-up); this replaces it there too.

Tests: first_start_window_test already covers both switches; add the Preferences tab to the apps tests (open, switch, check the state files).
