Research direction

Start by reading the home-page content and its navigation to find where the comparison page should be linked; the issue proposes content/compare.yml or an About section. Verify each comparison claim against the cited sources and the project’s own documentation, then include the requested rows and “when not to choose CWA.” Done when the comparison is balanced, sourced, and reachable from the home page.

Description

enhancement

From the 2026-10-08 positioning review (market research with sources).

Evaluators compare options, and the site gives them nothing to compare against. Add content/compare.yml (or a section of About), linked from the home page, with an honest table: CWA vs Storyblok, Payload, Strapi, Sulu, Nuxt Studio, Statamic/Craft.

Rows:

  • in-page visual editing
  • draft/publish and scheduling
  • self-hosted
  • licence and cost
  • front-end framework
  • back-end language
  • real-time updates
  • production stack included
  • maturity

Include "when not to choose CWA": you want a single JS stack, you need a stable release now, or you have no PHP skills. Don't frame it as "like WordPress".

Evidence gathered:

  • Storyblok's visual editor is SaaS, at $99–$349/mo plus custom tiers (factsheet), and its Nuxt integration is a v-editable bridge to a hosted editor.
  • Strapi's Community Edition has static preview only; Live Preview needs Growth or Enterprise (strapi.io).
  • Payload is MIT, but its visual editing is dev-led preview. It is Next.js-only and now Figma-owned.
  • Nuxt Studio is free and MIT, but Git/file based, with no draft/publish statuses or revision history (InfoQ).
  • Sulu, the Symfony incumbent, offers React helpers only, with no Vue/Nuxt path (sulu.io). That is CWA's clearest niche.
  • Directus is source-available, with a commercial licence above $5M revenue.
  • Statamic publishes its own comparison pages (statamic.com/vs/craft), so there's precedent.

Differentiators to lead with:

  1. page-level in-place visual editing that is MIT and self-hosted;
  2. brand guard-rails (allowed components per group, preset styles);
  3. a complete production stack: tag-purged HTTP cache, Cloudflare edge purges, Mercure real-time updates, scheduled publishing, Helm/Kubernetes, GitLab and GitHub CI.
