Research direction

Start by reviewing the existing save-game directory handling, INI loading, installation discovery, and -g command-line entry point described in the issue. Compare current behavior across vanilla, Gothic 1, Gothic 2, mods, and non-Windows platforms. The work is done when the project has agreed, documented behavior for installation, configuration, saves, and signing rather than separate one-off solutions.

Description

This topic been around in various forms for far. Maybe it's time to address it.

Goals
  1. Game should be easy to install & play.
  2. Engine behaviors should consistent be easy to predict for player.
  3. Avoid opportunistic one-time solutions for particular cases
Topics
  1. Save-game directory
  • need a clean separation between vanilla and opengothic saves.
  • need a separation between gothic1, gothic2 and mods
  1. Ini files hierarchy
  • What is best way to handle Gothic.ini ? (so far OG uses nested approach)
  • SystemPack.ini? (OG using one from gothic path)
  • OpenGothic settings? (commnad-line key are mess!)
  • DMA from LeGo ?
  1. Discovery of gothic-installation
  • currently handled by heuristics that no one seem to be using
  • and -g parameter
  • what about non-windows platforms?
  1. Signing (make antivirus happy)
