Research direction

Start in src/MeshWeaver.AI by tracing the ThreadInput logger and the As<Thread> call, then inspect the triage webhook flow that creates Hosting/Triage/issue/* nodes. Read how TriageItemContent.threadPath and bugThreadPath are populated and consult Doc/Architecture/ThreadOperations for thread-path conventions. Done when triage items resolve through their recorded thread references and the failing case is covered by a test.

Description

area:ai bug sev:M

What is failing

The AI thread-input pipeline (MeshWeaver.AI, logger category ThreadInput) resolves a mesh node with As<Thread> and fails when the node is not a thread. In the observed case the path handed to it was Hosting/Triage/issue/systemorph-meshweaver-6002 — a Hosting/TriageItem node (webhook-created triage item for Systemorph/MeshWeaver#6002) whose content is TriageItemContent, which is not convertible to Thread.

Probable cause (medium confidence — no stack frame was captured, so the callsite is inferred from the node shapes)

A caller that should follow the triage item's thread references — TriageItemContent.threadPath (Hosting/Triage/_Thread/an-issue-was-opened-…-0187) or TriageItemContent.bugThreadPath (Hosting/Triage/_Thread/bug-systemorph-meshweaver-6002, whose diagnosis round was Executing when the failure fired) — instead passed the triage item's own node path into a Thread-typed read. That is: triage-item → thread resolution is being done by path convention rather than by reading the content's recorded thread path, and there is no graceful case for a node whose content is a TriageItemContent. The same shape would fail for every triage item, not just this one.

Impact

Bounded so far: a single occurrence, one pod, in the internal triage/bug-diagnosis automation (not a user-facing portal path). Whatever operation needed the Thread did not get it — the AI round or supervision step behind this read either aborted or degraded. Whether this reproduces for every triage item is not yet known; if it does, automated triage of GitHub issues is systematically degraded. Severity left at M for a human to re-rule (down if it proves to be a one-off).

Where to look

  • src/MeshWeaver.AI — the component logging under category ThreadInput; the As<Thread> content-conversion call and its caller.
  • The triage webhook flow that creates Hosting/Triage/issue/* nodes and their threads — where a TriageItem should be mapped to its thread via TriageItemContent.threadPath / bugThreadPath instead of the item's own path.
  • Doc/Architecture/ThreadOperations — the thread hub/wake and MainNode conventions this resolution rides on.

Not a duplicate as far as the mesh shows: no prior incident or issue covers this fingerprint.

Routing not determined — no configured route matches the category MeshWeaver.AI.ThreadInput. This repository is the configured fallback, not a finding about who owns the fault; the category names the LOGGER, which may not be the subject.
