Research direction

Start with the ThreadChatView composer-loading step that logs “Loading the composer in Area {path}”; the issue does not name its source file or a test. Read the deleted-node behavior in the linked documentation and compare clients/react/src/controls/threadChat.tsx for how it handles a vanished thread. Done means a deleted thread leaves a terminal or navigated-away state instead of an unhandled error; add or run a relevant test if one exists.

Description

bug sev:L

What is failing

ThreadChatView fails to load the chat composer when the thread node it points at has been deleted. The mesh now answers a read of a deleted address definitively ("no node found — the node was deleted", per the 2026-08-09 fix), and the view's composer-loading step surfaces that terminal answer as an unhandled InvalidOperationException logged at Error level, instead of treating the thread as gone and closing or disabling the composer.

Probable cause

Moderate-to-high confidence: the view holds a stale reference to a thread node and dereferences it when loading the composer, without handling the deleted-node case. The concrete sample is a thread under a short-lived document (Hiring/.../arbeitsvertrag-praktikum-bei-systemorph-20261001-132044-de7e/_Thread/...) created at 13:20:44Z and deleted before the composer read at 13:29:41Z — the document (and with it the thread) was deleted while the view still referenced it. This is a genuine deleted-node race handled at the mesh layer (the read fails fast and correctly names the node) but not at the view layer. The sample carries no stack beyond the log site, so the exact dereference point in the composer-load path is inferred, not proven.

Impact

Small on the evidence: one occurrence, one pod, one instant. If reproducible, a user watching a thread that gets deleted sees a broken composer (failed load rather than a "thread is gone" state), and ops gets an Error-level ticket for an expected race. No data is lost — the mesh answered correctly.

Where to look

  • The composer-loading step in ThreadChatView that logs Loading the composer in Area {path} — catch the deleted-node InvalidOperationException and render a terminal state (or navigate away) instead of failing the load.
  • The mesh's deleted-node read semantics are documented in Reading a deleted node answers "not found" straight away — the view should treat that answer as "gone", not "retry" or "crash".
  • The React twin Thread Chat in React — check whether clients/react/src/controls/threadChat.tsx already handles a vanished thread and the Blazor view lacks the same guard.
  • Related but not a duplicate: issue Systemorph/MeshWeaver#5372 (anonymous visitor, UnauthorizedAccessException) fails at the same log site with a different root cause — see that ticket before assuming this is a recurrence.

Filed as sev:L: a rare edge case with no data impact and an obvious workaround (navigate away and reopen). Re-rule to sev:M if deleted-thread views recur while users are actively in them.
