Research direction

The issue reports that exefs and romfs contain identical content totaling 15.4 GB across 47,754 files, but it does not identify where those copies are created or consumed. Start by tracing the extraction and loading entry points for both folders and check what assumptions require separate copies. Done means establishing whether deduplication is safe and reducing disk use without breaking the game’s loading paths.

The idea

I'm not certain why it's needed to have the exefs and romfs have identical content? Comparing the two folders shows identical content of 15.4 GB 47,754 files. Is there a purpose to having two complete copies on disk?

(For example, the TotK native port uses up about half the disk space as BotW)
