Research direction

The report describes terrain geometry and texture corruption on an RX 7900 XTX under Mesa/RADV that does not occur on a Steam Deck OLED, and names no file, test or entry point. Start by reading the attached screenshot and the savagewind.log referenced in the report, then look for the Vulkan rendering path in the recompiled graphics code. Done means a reproduction on RADV and a diagnosis of the cause, which likely needs GPU and driver knowledge.

What happened, and how to make it happen again

I'm experiencing graphical artifacts in SavageWindRecomp on my Fedora Linux desktop with an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

Certain terrain surfaces appear distorted, with stretched geometry, broken edges, and patches of missing or incorrectly rendered textures.

Interestingly, I cannot reproduce these issues on my Steam Deck OLED, despite running the same SavageWindRecomp version on both devices.

System information

Affected system:

OS: Fedora Kinoite 45

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (RDNA 3)

Graphics driver: Mesa/RADV (Vulkan)

Display resolution: 2560 × 1440

SavageWindRecomp version: Alpha 0.4.1

Unaffected system:

Device: Steam Deck OLED (RDNA 2)

OS: SteamOS

Graphics driver: Mesa/RADV

SavageWindRecomp version: Alpha 0.4.1

Steps to reproduce

Launch SavageWindRecomp 0.4.1 on the Fedora desktop.

Load the game and explore areas with outdoor terrain, slopes, and water.

Observe the graphical corruption affecting portions of the environment.

The attached screenshot illustrates the issue.

Troubleshooting performed

Confirmed both systems use SavageWindRecomp 0.4.1.

Reduced Shadow Resolution to Console — no improvement.

Confirmed that FSR/upscaling is disabled.

The same issue has not been observed on the Steam Deck OLED.

Expected behavior

Terrain geometry and textures should render correctly, without stretched surfaces, missing patches, or visual corruption.

Actual behavior

Parts of the terrain appear distorted or fragmented, with visible graphical artifacts.

Additional information

The game otherwise runs well on the desktop, including at 120 FPS.

Given that the issue appears on the RX 7900 XTX but not the Steam Deck OLED, it may involve an RDNA 3-specific rendering difference or an interaction between SavageWindRecomp and RADV.

I'm happy to provide additional information or test potential fixes if needed.
