Research direction

Start by checking the Electron Builder configuration and release workflow to confirm how latest.yml and blockmaps are published, then read the electron-updater GitHub provider documentation. Decide how startup checks, tray access, disabling updates, and unsigned installers should behave; done means updates work for released builds and each behavior is covered. The issue leaves these decisions open, so confirm the intended scope with maintainers before implementation.

Description

enhancement help wanted

Users currently have to download each release manually. electron-builder already produces latest.yml and blockmaps, so electron-updater with the GitHub provider should fit.

Open questions:

  • Check on startup + from the tray menu?
  • A setting to turn it off.
  • The installer is unsigned for now; updates must still work with that.
