Research direction

Start with the Lua syntax checking and diagnostics paths for parsing continue with a trailing comment; compare them with the reproduction where continue has no comment. Confirm both reported errors are fixed for the commented case while the uncommented case still parses correctly.

What is the issue affecting?

Diagnostics/Syntax Checking

Expected Behaviour

The continue should not be underlined in red or error.

   for i = 1, 2 do
       continue -- trailing comment
   end
Actual Behaviour

Two errors:

  • Unexpected < exp > . Lua Syntax Check.(exp-in-action)
  • Undefined global continue. Lua Diagnostics.(undefined-global)
Reproduction steps

This parses correctly:

  for i = 1, 2 do
      continue
  end

This does not:

  for i = 1, 2 do
      continue -- trailing comment
  end
