Research direction

The stdlib root is computed from the executable's path (/proc/self/exe/../lib) in the C source, so start there and find where that lookup is built. Add a fallback that also tries exe_dir/../../lib when the binary sits under build/, or have make create a lib symlink in build/. Done when a stdlib-loading program run directly from build/release/eigenscript loads, and a test covers that case.

Description

area:stdlib bug

The stdlib root is exe-relative (/proc/self/exe/../lib). For a variant binary run directly (build/<variant>/eigenscript) it resolves to the nonexistent build/lib, so any program that does load_file "lib/..." fails at load. Seen in the #1665 per-layer review: test_tasks and test_arena_escape fail from build/<arm>/ and pass through the src/eigenscript hardlink. Measurements that call variant binaries by explicit path, which #1676 forces, hit this.

Done when

  • A binary run from build/<variant>/ resolves the repo lib/. For example, the lookup also tries exe_dir/../../lib when exe_dir sits under build/, or make places a lib symlink in build/.
  • A test runs one stdlib-loading program from build/release/eigenscript directly.
