Research direction

Start with GameVersionScene.Init and compare the preselected-game path with the no-preselection paths; the issue also points to InitPhase2, SceneLogo, and ScenePreCaching. Reproduce both cases on a fresh install with one and then two game folders; done means one game pre-caches before loading and two games offer a selection instead of leaving the player at a black screen.

Description

bug
Description

GameVersionScene.Init without a preselected game:

  • G1 and G2 found: it only logs "Gothic1 and Gothic2 installation found." There is no selection UI, so the player sees black with the hands.
  • Only one game found: it runs InitPhase2 and loads SceneLogo, not ScenePreCaching like the preselected path. Without a static cache (first start) every world load fails, both new game and load game:
DirectoryNotFoundException: Directory not found: .../files/Cache/Gothic1 (StaticCacheService.LoadGlobalCache).
Expected Behavior
  • Both found: the player can choose.
  • One found: the pre-caching runs first.
Actual Behavior

See above.

Reproduction Steps
  1. Quest build with PreselectGameVersion off, game data in files/Gothic1 and files/Gothic2. Result: black, hands only.
  2. Remove files/Gothic2 and start again. The menu shows, but new game or load game doesn't get into the world.

Environment Information

  • Reproducibility: Always
  • Platform: all (seen on Quest 3; the editor usually preselects a game, so it doesn't show there)
  • Game Version: main 83a1aebd2
  • Is this a fresh install or an update? Fresh
Notes
  • BoroBongo's game profile menu (split/12, #475, EnableGameProfiles in GameSettings.json) gives a selection that runs the pre-caching. The one-game path is unchanged there.
  • Related: #395.
  • Fix for one game: load ScenePreCaching, like the preselected path.
