Steps to reproduce the bug

When opening the app and viewing a long list of messages, the phone's bottom navigation bar overlaps the messages. Since the navigation bar has a fully transparent background, it is difficult to see the navigation buttons and also hard to read the messages positioned underneath. Other messaging apps use a white background, which makes the navigation buttons easier to see.

Expected behavior

The bottom navigation bar should have a background color applied that provides contrast to the buttons when they are positioned over a message.

Actual behavior

The bottom navigation bar has a fully transparent background, making it difficult to see the buttons when they are positioned over the text of a message.
