Research direction

Compare the Filesystem folder list and per-folder view with the Album list and per-album view, focusing on the existing queue actions and how files are ordered. Decide which of the two proposed approaches fits the existing screens, then check that users can add a folder’s audio files to the queue or play them next; the issue does not name source files or tests.

Description

enhancement

Most users will use the filesystem convention of folder containing music files = album.
This means the ability to work with the entire folder for playlist append / play next would be helpful. It is already possible to play all files (replace playlist) in a folder, but not to do add/insert playlist operations.

In Album browsing mode, for reference:
Album list - long press album yields popup for "add to queue" and "play next" (insert into queue).
Per-album view - functionality exists to "Play all" or to add individual tracks to queue.

In Filesystem browsing mode:
Folder list - long press does nothing.
Per-folder (containing audio) view - functionality appears identical to per-album view, with play all and individual file enqueue.

Describe the solution you'd like
Considered two possibilities:

  1. Long press on folder in Filesystem mode for playlist "Add to queue", matching Album list functionality. This probably requires sanity checks - does the folder contain audio files, what order to enqueue files in, etc.
  2. If code is re-used between the per-album and per-folder track list screens, implement playlist operations on these screens, alongside play all button, or as long press of play all button. It seems like the filesystem per-folder screen already filters for music files and properly orders them in display, and only displays these controls when the directory has audio.

Notes:
Note screen real estate for solution 2:
Per-album:
