Research direction

Start by locating the MC1229 (Sorter) implementation and the existing handling for pipe output or dropped items. Check how adjacent inventories are represented and whether related tests exist. Done means the Sorter can output directly into adjacent inventories without requiring pipes or hoppers, with any configuration behavior explicitly covered.

Description

status:accepted type:feature-request

Current Function
Currently the MC1229 IC, aka Sorter, outputs into pipes or drops the item, which can be used with a hopper, but it can't directly output into chests or other inventories.

Feature Request
It would be nice to have the IC be able to output directly into adjacent inventories, so there would be no need for pipes or hoppers in between. This would reduce the size and cost of more granular sorting systems, possibly add a configuration option to toggle this behavior if not desired.
