Research direction

The issue asks whether the standard_name attribute written to CPLHIST output variables should be removed, so start by searching the Fortran sources for where standard_name is set on those variables. Confirm with a maintainer that removal is wanted before editing, since the reporter is asking whether they are missing a reason to keep it. Done means either the attribute is removed and the CF compliance check no longer flags these names, or the reason to keep it is documented on the issue.

Description

enhancement question

CPLHIST files add the standard_name attribute to each output variable. But, it's the same name as the variable name, and hence is redundant. But, the naming convention follows the CMEPS naming standard -- but not the CF-Convention standard_name. So checking for compliance with CF just has it report the names as an error.

I'm thinking it doesn't serve enough of a purpose and should just be removed. But, am I missing something?
