Research direction

Launch PictoPy’s onboarding wizard and open Step 1, then enter a single word longer than 30 characters to reproduce the validation state. Inspect the profile setup container’s layout when the error message appears and disappears. Done means the profile picture retains its original vertical alignment in both valid and invalid states, with the validation message still displayed correctly.

BUG: PROD: v1.3.0-beta Onboarding Profile Picture Misaligns When Name Validation Error Appears

Description

In PictoPy v1.3.0-beta, the first step of the onboarding wizard allows users to enter their name and select a profile picture.

The name field correctly validates that a single word cannot exceed 30 characters. When this limit is exceeded, an error message appears below the name input:

A single word cannot exceed 30 characters.

However, displaying this validation error causes the profile picture circle to become vertically misaligned within the profile setup container.

The validation itself works as expected. The issue is limited to the profile picture's positioning when the error message appears.

Steps to Reproduce
  1. Launch PictoPy v1.3.0-beta for the first time.
  2. Navigate to Step 1 of the onboarding wizard.
  3. Enter a name containing a single word longer than 30 characters.
  4. Observe the validation error displayed below the name input.
  5. Notice the change in the profile picture circle's alignment.
Actual Behavior
  • The validation error is displayed correctly below the name input.
  • The profile picture circle shifts from its original position when the error message appears.
  • This causes the profile picture to become vertically misaligned with the name input and the surrounding layout.
Expected Behavior
  • The profile picture circle should maintain its original alignment regardless of whether the name validation error is displayed.
  • Displaying or removing the validation error should not cause the profile picture to shift vertically.
  • The profile setup container should maintain a consistent layout in both valid and invalid input states.
Environment
  • Application: PictoPy
  • Version: v1.3.0-beta
  • Location: Onboarding wizard, Step 1 (profile setup)
  • Category: Production Bug / UI Layout / Form Validation
