Problem
The session audio recording can only start together with the session. record is fixed at AgentSession.start(), and with audio=True the session wires RecorderIO into the audio input and output and starts it right away. Every frame from the first second of the session is recorded.
Many voice agents have to ask for recording consent first, which means the start of the call must never be recorded. In Germany, § 201 StGB makes recording the non-public spoken word without consent a criminal offence, and the attempt is already punishable, so deleting the file afterwards does not help. Other places have similar all-party consent rules, for example several US states. Today the only options are to record the consent question too, or not to use the built-in recording at all.
PR #6208 proposed update_options(record=...) mid-session for exactly this case ("after recording consent is obtained"), but it was closed unmerged. It also could only turn audio off mid-session. Turning audio on afterwards did not start the recorder.
