Copilot agentic-workflows catalog lacks the 5.5 Claude models an org's seats have; docs should steer to aliases
Analysis
A pi workflow with model: copilot/claude-opus-5.5 compiles on v0.93.2, which even embeds pricing for the model, but it fails at agent startup:
model resolution: engine=pi role=main configured=copilot/claude-opus-5.5 resolved=claude-opus-5.5 provider=copilot status=exact
fatal: Pi model "claude-opus-5.5" is not advertised by the configured copilot proxy endpoint; ... not available in the workflow's live model catalog. For Copilot, availability also depends on the agentic-workflows integration, not just organization policy.
In the same run, the workflow's awf-reflect.json lists only these Claude models: claude-haiku-4.5, claude-opus-4.8, claude-opus-5 and claude-sonnet-5. Our organization's Copilot seats use claude-opus-5.5 and claude-sonnet-5.5 every day.
daily-model-inventory (#71961) lists the 5.5 models as live. That inventory reflects the catalog gh-aw's own repository is offered, so users have no way to learn that their workflows may be offered less.
model: opus resolves to claude-opus-5 today and works. It is the portable choice.
Question for the core team
Can the agentic-workflows integration offer the 5.5 Claude models to organizations whose seats have them? Is there a documented rule or timeline?
Implementation plan (docs)
- In
docs/src/content/docs/reference/engines.md, under "Model aliases", add a note:- the Copilot catalog offered to a workflow can differ by organization and lag the organization's seats;
- prefer aliases (
opus,sonnet) over exact Copilot IDs; - to see the actual catalog, read
sandbox/firewall/awf-reflect.jsonin the run'sagentartifact.
- In
docs/src/content/docs/reference/model-tables.md, add one line to the same effect, linking to that note.
Acceptance: both pages carry the note. An exact Copilot ID that is missing from the catalog is explained as "not offered to this workflow", with aliases recommended.
