The gap is called out in src/main/java/org/duckdb/DuckDBDriver.java around the JDBC compliance comment. A linked open PR (#895) already implements a basic javax.sql.DataSource; do not start a second one. If that PR stalls, read the JDBC DataSource contract and how DuckDBDriver currently obtains connections, then add a small DataSource class that delegates to the existing driver.

DuckDB Java currently does not implement javax.sql.DataSource anywhere as is required to comply with the JDBC spec ;).
I'm currently using a JDBC library (Pyranid) that only supports DataSource.getConnection() and not DriverManager.getConnection(...). To work with DuckDB, their docs suggest pulling in an extra import HikariCP for the sole purpose of wrapping DuckDB to get a DataSource. That's not strictly necessary, as a basic DataSource implementation is pretty trivial to write, but it would be nice to have one supplied directly by DuckDB Java anyway.
I plan submit a pull request with said basic implementation shortly.
